The frontpage headlines in Satuday Morinings paper stopped me in my tracks as I paid for my petrol on the way home from work. I was holding up the queue trying to read the frontpage as I knew we'd have the paper at home I had just been at work and not seen it yet but as I read the headlines I had to know all.

Top Bishop's Vision- A World Without Gays

And this further interview with him

    Interview

I was particularly confused/annoyed with this quote from the interview.

"But while he condemns the sin, he says he does not condemn the gay person."

*scratches head* I dunno but it kinda sounds like removing the actions from the responsibility of the person who did them.

e.g. As well as people who have committed the "sin" of loving each other despite widespread disapproval/condemnation. Does this 'rule' apply to those people who have comittted the "sin" of violently assaulting someone else another condemned behaviour.

This reminds me of those groups, mostly religious, that claim homosexuality is "curable". By proper guidance and counselling gay people can become heterosexual. I was teasing my brother one time and asked him if he'd go to one of those support groups. He told me, "No self-respecting gay person would be caught dead in one of those groups."

I found it interesting that he considered the purpose of marriage as "the procreation of children."

Also, that issues of gays and women and immigrants would not be settled "in my lifetime," but eventually. Well, he's already had two strokes, so maybe he's not far from kicking the bucket anyway.

You just have to love the contracticion in this quote:

"To go and seek out the poor, the lame, the blind, the unfortunate, the landless, the homeless, the foodless, and identify with those people completely. Always look after the underdogs and the underprivileged. Just love them to death."

And, yes, this list does include gays. 'Absolutely.'"

So love us to death, but hope homosexuality will be wiped out? Nice.
